stats on props empty

has anyone done any work on why properties are left empty. i have been asked to carry out a survey working out why properties are left empty i.e. the reasons why. if so could you let me know results or .

The study commissioned by

The study commissioned by the then DOE back in the early 1990s does contain some useful info about the properties investigated in that study. The report is called "Vacant Dwellings in the Private Sector" and I think it was published in 1994.
Southampton did a survey way back around then as well.
