The Empty Homes Network has published the draft discussion version of its 2014-15 policy paper Filling the Empties: national commitment, local delivery. This available for comment by members and non-members alike and has been added to our Information Library and is downloadable from here.
With no contention for Executive places, those people nominated were returned unopposed and without the need for an election (phew!).
At its last meeting in July, the Executive voted a huge thank you to Matt Smith of Birmingham City Council (pictured left) for his two-year stint as Chair, a period that included continuing growth for the Empty Homes Network despite the cuts and was also brightened by probably the two best national Conferences that EHN has ever run. Matt's steadying influence has been invaluable during a challenging time.
The third award featured in our series about the Empty Homes Awards 2014 presented at our Conference in Birmingham in May is that for Best Local Authority / Housing Association Partnership.

Adrian White, a student at Plymouth University, is conducting research into housing supply, including the role that can be played by empty homes work, including conversions of redundant commercial space.
This is an interactive online suvey using Smartsurvey. It takes just a couple of minutes to complete and you're encouraged to help Adrian by doing so. We'll report the results in due course when Adrian has analysed them.

The second award featured in our series about the Empty Homes Awards 2014 presented at our Conference in Birmingham in May is that for Most Innovative Intervention. This award was newly introduced last year by sponsor Carson Millican, trading as Empty Property Solutions Ltd (contactable by email).
We have been approached by television production company Keo Films to try and source a serious pest problem and a serious pest officer - who, it seems, has to be female. (The pests can be any gender as far as we know, although we hear they're normally male).
The Empty Homes Awards 2014 attracted a wide range of impressive submissions. The Awards were presented at a ceremony sponsored by Grafton UK Ltd. at the Empty Homes Conference 2014 and over the coming weeks we look forward to highlighting the details of winning submissions on our website.
